NEW YORK (Reuters) - Measures of emotional intelligence (emotional intelligence) of the workers, ranging from the ability to read body language to control frustration, potentially good for business, according to new research.
Researchers from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) proposes that the measurement of emotional intelligence can be an indicator of employee skill in doing his job.
"Emotional Intelligence is the ability to read emotional self and others. For example, it is an awareness of body language. It is also the ability to control and handle frustration and other emotions," said Ronald Humphrey, a professor of management science who conducted research them.
"Research into the scientific evidence that supports this idea by giving attention to the moods and emotions that are good for business," he added.
The researchers compared the previous research for 10 years on the role of emotional intelligence.
Humphrey said the measurement of emotional intelligence officials can be very useful in order to predict the ability to work well with others, and also the leadership of the workers.
The study analyzes the emotional intelligence in three ways.
First, known as capabilities-based test, using a multiple choice test to evaluate the emotional awareness.
A second study using situational tests, the participants were given social situation and asked to choose the most appropriate sense to be applied.
Third Test, referred to as a mixed model of emotional competence testing, a broader definition than the two other tests and also considers factors such as empathy for others.
Humphrey adding that emotional intelligence is the second most important factor in job performance, after cognitive intelligence.
"That was a factor in the management and leadership. The study suggested that a culture that values emotional intelligence and understand the feelings are important. One can lead with emotional intelligence and have a competent team emotionally," added Murphy.
